Tuta (formerly Tutanota) is a German encrypted email provider that has been operating since 2011. It uses its own encryption protocol rather than PGP, which has allowed it to implement post-quantum cryptography ahead of most competitors. All data, including email subjects, contacts, and calendar entries, is encrypted end-to-end, which goes beyond what most encrypted email providers offer.

The service provides native desktop applications for Windows, macOS, and Linux, eliminating the need for a bridge application to use with desktop email clients.

Privacy and Security

Tuta's encryption combines AES-256 with Kyber-1024, a post-quantum key encapsulation mechanism, to protect against future quantum computing threats. The company is based in Germany, which has strong data protection laws under the EU GDPR. All applications are open source and have been independently audited. Tuta does not use any third-party services for tracking or analytics.
