Built on top of the Mullvad WireGuard server network, the service provides access to over 500 servers across 30+ countries. Rather than building its own server infrastructure from scratch, Mozilla made the pragmatic decision to leverage Mullvad's established and privacy-focused network, adding its own client applications and account management layer on top.

The service uses WireGuard exclusively — no OpenVPN, no IKEv2 — which simplifies the user experience and ensures consistently strong performance.
